TUPY Pipe Fittings in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia is the largest single market in the TUPY territory, and in practice it is two markets: the Eastern Province supplied through Dammam and the west supplied through Jeddah. Galvanised iron (GI) and malleable iron (MI) threaded fittings reach either coast from the range held in Dubai or in a container shipped direct from the Brazilian foundry, and which route lands cheaper turns on where the job sits and how the order is made up.

Two routes into the Kingdom, both costed

Two routes are open, and both are quoted so the comparison is made on one number rather than on a promise. The first is ex-stock: the range is held in Dubai and re-exported to the Kingdom, which suits mixed orders, a spread of figures and sizes, and any requirement that cannot wait for a production slot. The second is direct: full-container quantities shipped from Brazil to King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam for the Eastern Province, or to Jeddah Islamic Port for the west and the central region.

For a single figure in volume - a fire contractor taking one size of elbow by the pallet, say - the direct route usually wins, because the freight is spread over a full container and the goods are handled once. For a project that needs eighty figures in small quantities, the Dubai stock almost always wins. Ask for both and the difference is visible in the quotation.

Onward delivery is quoted to Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Al Khobar, Jubail and Yanbu.

NFPA fire work and what it asks of a fitting

Fire protection is the clearest case. Saudi projects are largely written to NFPA, and NFPA 13 asks for listed components, which is why the UL Listed and FM Approved figures matter more here than the general range does. Those figures are identified in the catalogue and can be quoted on their own.

Water and plumbing networks take galvanised iron (GI) fittings in BSP, and the industrial cities - Jubail, Yanbu, Ras Al Khair - take the steam, condensate and compressed air lines that malleable iron (MI) is used for at working pressures ordinary steel fittings are not rated to. Gas distribution work is where the DVGW approval is asked for.

BSP or NPT: which thread the Kingdom uses

Both are in use in Saudi Arabia and mixing them is the single most common ordering error. Building services, water and most fire work follow BSP - the taper and parallel threads of EN 10242 and ISO 49. Oil, gas and petrochemical work written by American engineering contractors follows NPT to ANSI B16.3, in Class 150 and Class 300.

TUPY produces both, from the same foundry and to the same material standard, so a project can standardise on one supplier across both thread forms. If the specification is not explicit, send it with the enquiry and it will be read before anything is quoted.

The certificates that travel with the goods

Every TUPY fitting is cast and inspected under ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 systems audited by Bureau Veritas, and each Saudi shipment carries its mill test certificate and its certificate of origin.

Where a Saudi project or authority requires a local conformity registration in addition to the above, that requirement is handled per project with the consultant and the importer of record - tell us what the specification asks for and it will be addressed directly rather than assumed.

Sizes and figures quoted into the Kingdom

The full threaded range is quoted into the Kingdom — elbows, tees, sockets, unions, bushes, nipples, plugs, caps, crosses and their reducing versions, 1/4in to 6in, galvanised or black, in BSP and in NPT Class 150 and 300 — alongside the TUPYPRES press-fit system for work where threading on site is unwanted. Every figure, dimension and weight is published on the site.

Frequently asked questions

Do you ship direct to Dammam and Jeddah, or only through Dubai?

Both. Container quantities are shipped direct from Brazil to King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam or to Jeddah Islamic Port; mixed and smaller orders are supplied from the Dubai stock. Both are quoted so the landed cost can be compared.

Are the fittings UL Listed and FM Approved?

The relevant fire-protection figures carry both, which is what an NFPA-written sprinkler spec in the Kingdom asks for. The approvals are held by TUPY in Brazil and apply figure by figure, so a submittal cites the specific figure and size rather than the brand.

Can you supply NPT for an oil and gas project?

Yes — the same foundry makes NPT to ANSI B16.3 in Class 150 and Class 300 alongside the BSP range, which is what the Eastern Province oil and gas packages usually call for. Send the specification so the thread form and class are fixed before we quote.

What is the minimum order for Saudi Arabia?

It depends on the route. Ex-stock from Dubai there is no container minimum; direct from Brazil the economics start at a full container. Ask for both and the quotation will show which is cheaper for the quantity in question.

Need a price for this market?

Send the figures, sizes and quantities and both routes will be quoted - ex-stock Dubai and direct from Brazil - so the landed cost can be compared.
