The cap, unlike the plug, has an internal thread and screws over the end of a pipe or a nipple. Both close off the run, but they are used in different places: the plug goes inside a female port, the cap goes over a male one.
At the top of risers, on spare pipe ends and at the end points of fire protection networks, the cap is the usual choice, because fitting it over the pipe end is simpler than adding a female fitting and then a plug.
Like the plug, the cap always carries the full line pressure. The hexagonal body allows it to be tightened with a spanner and torqued enough for a reliable seal.
The TUPY cap is supplied as figure 300: malleable cast iron, BSP thread to EN 10242 and ISO 49, galvanised and black.

The weight depends on the size: the 1" size, for example, weighs 0.154 kg galvanised and 0.140 kg black. The weights of every size are taken from the official TUPY catalogue and are listed in the table on this page, so they can be used to work out shipping weight and freight cost.
TUPYBSP fittings are threaded to BSP in accordance with ISO 7-1; the male thread is tapered and the seal is made on the thread itself. BSP is not interchangeable with NPT, and screwing the two together will leak. TUPY also produces a separate NPT line, which is covered in the downloads section.
The figure 290 plug is male threaded and screws into the female end of a pipe or fitting. The figure 300 cap is female threaded and fits over the male end of a pipe. Both blank off the end of a line, and the choice between them depends only on which thread has to be closed.
According to TUPY's technical catalogue, the working pressure of TUPYBSP fittings is 25 bar between −20 °C and +120 °C. It falls to 20 bar above 300 °C, and intermediate values are interpolated. The design pressure in the hydrostatic test is 100 bar for sizes up to 4 in and 64 bar for 5 in and 6 in.

The threads are clean and free of burrs, and the galvanised coating is even.
