The TUPY Brazil hexagonal cap (figure 300) closes the end of a threaded pipe. What separates it from a plain cap is the hexagonal body, which makes it simple and safe to tighten with a spanner.

To close the end of a line, the cap is screwed onto the male thread of the pipe. A round cap is awkward to grip with a pipe wrench and the body can be damaged in the process; the hexagonal body solves that and allows a controlled torque to be applied with an open-ended or ring spanner.
It is used at the end of branches left for future extension, for line testing, and at drain points.
Sizes run from 1/2 to 6in. Sample dimensions: ½in code 1241004, a = 23 mm, galvanised weight 0.059 kg; 2in code 1241010, a = 38, weight 0.436; 4in code 1241014, a = 56, weight 1.862; and 6in code 1241016, a = 63 mm, weight 3.715 kg.
The material is blackheart malleable cast iron to grade JMB 350-10, finished hot-dip galvanised or black.

The weight depends on the size: the 1" size, for example, weighs 0.154 kg galvanised and 0.140 kg black. The weights of every size are taken from the official TUPY catalogue and are listed in the table on this page, so they can be used to work out shipping weight and freight cost.
TUPYBSP fittings are threaded to BSP in accordance with ISO 7-1; the male thread is tapered and the seal is made on the thread itself. BSP is not interchangeable with NPT, and screwing the two together will leak. TUPY also produces a separate NPT line, which is covered in the downloads section.
The figure 290 plug is male threaded and screws into the female end of a pipe or fitting. The figure 300 cap is female threaded and fits over the male end of a pipe. Both blank off the end of a line, and the choice between them depends only on which thread has to be closed.
According to TUPY's technical catalogue, the working pressure of TUPYBSP fittings is 25 bar between −20 °C and +120 °C. It falls to 20 bar above 300 °C, and intermediate values are interpolated. The design pressure in the hydrostatic test is 100 bar for sizes up to 4 in and 64 bar for 5 in and 6 in.

The threads are clean and free of burrs, and the galvanised coating is even.
