A peça de redução M/F combina duas funções: rosca externa numa ponta e rosca interna na outra, em dois diâmetros diferentes. Ela continua o trecho na mesma linha, mas muda a bitola.
Esta peça é necessária onde o tipo de rosca e a bitola têm de mudar ao mesmo tempo — uma situação que aparece constantemente na ligação a válvulas, medidores e equipamentos de medição. Sem ela seria preciso combinar uma bucha de redução e uma luva.
Como uma das pontas é macho, a vedação é feita na rosca externa e exige o mesmo cuidado que um niple; a ponta fêmea, por sua vez, recebe a peça seguinte.
A peça de redução M/F TUPY é fornecida como figura 246: ferro fundido maleável com rosca BSP conforme EN 10242 e ISO 49, em combinações de bitolas de 3/4pol a 2pol.

The weight depends on the size: the 1.1/4"×3/4" size, for example, weighs 0.220 kg galvanised and 0.183 kg black. The weights of every size are taken from the official TUPY catalogue and are listed in the table on this page, so they can be used to work out shipping weight and freight cost.
TUPYBSP fittings are threaded to BSP in accordance with ISO 7-1; the male thread is tapered and the seal is made on the thread itself. BSP is not interchangeable with NPT, and screwing the two together will leak. TUPY also produces a separate NPT line, which is covered in the downloads section.
The figure 270 socket is female at both ends and joins two pipes of the same diameter; its reducing version is figure 240. The figure 280 nipple is male at both ends and joins two female parts; its reducing version is figure 245. The figure 241 reducer is male at one end and female at the other and screws inside a socket or a tee to bring the diameter down. The figure 529A M/F extension piece is longer and acts as a connector; its reducing version is figure 246.
According to TUPY's technical catalogue, the working pressure of TUPYBSP fittings is 25 bar between −20 °C and +120 °C. It falls to 20 bar above 300 °C, and intermediate values are interpolated. The design pressure in the hydrostatic test is 100 bar for sizes up to 4 in and 64 bar for 5 in and 6 in.
