O cotovelo de 90° é uma das conexões roscadas mais usadas em instalações prediais e industriais. Sua função é mudar a direção do escoamento do fluido em 90°, sem perda de carga significativa e sem criar um ponto fraco na tubulação.
O cotovelo de 90° da TUPY Brasil é identificado pela figura 90 e é fundido em ferro maleável. Ao contrário do ferro fundido cinzento, que é quebradiço sob impacto, o ferro maleável pode se deformar plasticamente: sob impacto, vibração e as tensões causadas pela dilatação térmica ele cede ligeiramente em vez de fraturar. É essa propriedade que torna a conexão adequada a linhas de gás, linhas de vapor e redes de combate a incêndio.
As roscas do cotovelo de 90° TUPY são usinadas em BSP, com base na EN 10242 e na ISO 49. A precisão da rosca é decisiva nestas conexões: uma rosca com passo errado ou ângulo irregular acaba desenvolvendo vazamento com o tempo, mesmo tendo sido vedada corretamente.
A conexão é fornecida em dois acabamentos. O tipo galvanizado é revestido por imersão a quente e serve a linhas de água potável, ambientes úmidos e trechos externos. O tipo preto (sem revestimento) é usado em linhas de vapor e óleo e em trechos não expostos à umidade.
O cotovelo de 90° da TUPY Brasil está disponível nas bitolas de 1/4pol a 6pol e suporta pressão de trabalho de até 25 bar e temperaturas de até 300 °C.

The weight depends on the size: the 1" size, for example, weighs 0.210 kg galvanised and 0.202 kg black. The weights of every size are taken from the official TUPY catalogue and are listed in the table on this page, so they can be used to work out shipping weight and freight cost.
TUPYBSP fittings are threaded to BSP in accordance with ISO 7-1; the male thread is tapered and the seal is made on the thread itself. BSP is not interchangeable with NPT, and screwing the two together will leak. TUPY also produces a separate NPT line, which is covered in the downloads section.
The figure 90 elbow turns the pipe run through 90° and is female at both ends. The figure 120 45° elbow is used for a gentler change of direction and a lower pressure drop. The figure 90R reducing elbow has two ends of different diameter, so it changes direction and diameter in one fitting. The figure 92 street elbow is male at one end and female at the other and screws straight into the next fitting without a socket; its 45° version is figure 121.
According to TUPY's technical catalogue, the working pressure of TUPYBSP fittings is 25 bar between −20 °C and +120 °C. It falls to 20 bar above 300 °C, and intermediate values are interpolated. The design pressure in the hydrostatic test is 100 bar for sizes up to 4 in and 64 bar for 5 in and 6 in.
The TUPY Cotovelo 90° is manufactured to EN 10242 / ISO 49. TUPY malleable cast iron fittings are built to ISO 49, EN 10242 and ABNT NBR 6943, and their threads follow ISO 7-1. The factory certificates can be seen in the standards and certifications section on this page.
On the body of every genuine TUPY fitting the factory mark, the figure number and the size are raised in the casting, not etched or printed. The threads are clean and free of burrs, and the galvanised coating is even. The surest check is to weigh the piece and compare it with the weight table on this page; counterfeit pieces usually come out lighter than the official catalogue weight.
