O cotovelo macho e fêmea tem rosca fêmea (interna) numa extremidade e rosca macho (externa) na outra. Essa combinação permite rosqueá-lo diretamente numa válvula, num medidor ou em qualquer equipamento com bocal fêmea, sem precisar de niple intermediário.
Eliminar uma conexão intermediária elimina uma junta e um ponto potencial de vazamento. Em casas de máquinas e redes de combate a incêndio, onde o número de juntas é alto, isso economiza tempo de instalação e ganha confiabilidade na linha.
O cotovelo macho e fêmea TUPY é identificado pela figura 92. O corpo é fundido em ferro maleável e as roscas das duas pontas são usinadas em BSP; a precisão da rosca importa mais na ponta macho, porque a vedação é feita nessa rosca.
É fornecido galvanizado e preto, nas bitolas de 1/4pol a 6pol.

The weight depends on the size: the 1" size, for example, weighs 0.237 kg galvanised and 0.227 kg black. The weights of every size are taken from the official TUPY catalogue and are listed in the table on this page, so they can be used to work out shipping weight and freight cost.
TUPYBSP fittings are threaded to BSP in accordance with ISO 7-1; the male thread is tapered and the seal is made on the thread itself. BSP is not interchangeable with NPT, and screwing the two together will leak. TUPY also produces a separate NPT line, which is covered in the downloads section.
The figure 90 elbow turns the pipe run through 90° and is female at both ends. The figure 120 45° elbow is used for a gentler change of direction and a lower pressure drop. The figure 90R reducing elbow has two ends of different diameter, so it changes direction and diameter in one fitting. The figure 92 street elbow is male at one end and female at the other and screws straight into the next fitting without a socket; its 45° version is figure 121.
According to TUPY's technical catalogue, the working pressure of TUPYBSP fittings is 25 bar between −20 °C and +120 °C. It falls to 20 bar above 300 °C, and intermediate values are interpolated. The design pressure in the hydrostatic test is 100 bar for sizes up to 4 in and 64 bar for 5 in and 6 in.
The TUPY Cotovelo Macho e Fêmea (M/F) is manufactured to EN 10242 / ISO 49. TUPY malleable cast iron fittings are built to ISO 49, EN 10242 and ABNT NBR 6943, and their threads follow ISO 7-1. The factory certificates can be seen in the standards and certifications section on this page.
